Insulin for the Holidays

As most Americans do, I've been contemplating the holiday season by trying to decide what I want for Christmas! Instead of focussing on my work, I deviate to Amazon.com and scan for items that might suit a particular need or fulfill a specific desire.

It's perfectly natural. We all do it. The humdrum nature of our work and the trauma of our lives is only survivable with a bit of fantasy. It is the sugar on our breakfast cereal. As with too much of anything though, it can lead to disaster.

The current economic crisis is akin to the country suffering from diabetes. Too much money, like sugar, from dubious sources, like those doughnuts left over in the conference room, supported our economy, fulfilled our hunger, until the system shut down. The Federal Reserve, like a doctor, is trying to inject the economy with money, insulin, but the system isn't responding very readily.

So I surf the web, find something to buy, add it to my basket, get all the way to the checkout and leave the item sitting there....
